In the late 1886, Captain Mifflin Kenedy founded the town that he wanted to bear his name. He owned 400,000 acres in the area. Kenedy was a partner of Richard King, owner of the famed King Ranch. At the turn of the 20th century, many a gunfight in the center of town caused the town to be nicknamed “Six Shooter Junction.”
Today Kenedy is known as the ‘the junction where good friends meet.” It’s located at the intersection of US Hwy 1801 and State Hwy 72, State Hwy 239 and FM 792, and within of IH 37, IH 59, SH 80 and SH 123
